The Civil & Human Rights Committee's focus is on Educating, Empowering, and Engaging the Union members in a culturally diverse and representational work environment.
The committee is responsible to hold the company accountable with the support that they receive from the membership. We will fight for equal representation for all of our members and ensure their needs are met. The committee encourages all members to participate with feedback, negative or positive, as long as the intent is to create a positive change.

What is Diversity and Inclusion?
Diversity is about recognizing, respecting, and valuing differences based on ethnicity, gender, color, age, race, religion, disability, national origin and sexual orientation. It also includes an infinite range of individual unique characteristics and experiences, such as communication style, career path, life experience, educational background, geographic location, income level, marital status, military experience, parental status and other variables that influence personal perspectives.* These life experiences and personal perspectives make us react and think differently, approach challenges and solve problems differently, make suggestions and decisions differently, and see different opportunities. Diversity, then, is also about diversity of thought. The thoughts one generates, which are based on differences, can support or not support diversity, depending on the actions taken. A clear definition of “Inclusion” is the action or state of including or of being included within a group or structure. Here at TWU Local 577 fully support inclusion and stand for providing an environment that is safe for ALL Flight Attendants.
WHAT is Discrimination and WHY is it important to keep it outside of the workplace?
The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people of things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex. It is especially important to exclude this type of behavior or thinking in the workplace because we may not understand others, co-workers, environment, or state of mind. Discrimination promotes Inequality, prejudice and creates a hostile work environment. Although we may not understand other’s viewpoints, it is our responsibility to come together and learn from each other before making judgmental statements and/or actions.
What is the Committee path and/or actions being taken?
The basis of this committee is to create an all-inclusive environment where members find education, be recognized/celebrated, and to create the platform for every voice to be heard. We also promote recruitment in the committee and encourage as many members as possible to be a part of positive change.
